The Tu-160 bomber is a variable-sweep wing, supersonic, long-range strategic bomber developed by the Tupolev Design Bureau in the Soviet Union. It was originally intended to replace the Tu-22M and Tu-95 bombers for strategic bombing missions and is very similar to the U.S. Air Force’s B-1 Lancer. It was the last strategic bomber program before the dissolution of the Soviet Union and remains the heaviest bomber ever built.
