The SR-71 “Blackbird” was a long-range, Mach 3 strategic reconnaissance aircraft used by the U.S. Air Force. Developed by Lockheed based on the A-12 design, its sister model was the YF-12 interceptor. The SR-71 was designed by the legendary Kelly Johnson and his team at the Skunk Works, the same group behind iconic aircraft such as the P-38 Lightning and the U-2 spy plane.
