The Eiffel Tower is the most iconic landmark in Paris. The wrought-iron lattice tower on the Champ de Mars was completed in 1889 and is named after the engineer Gustave Eiffel, whose company designed and built the tower.
Built to mark the 100th anniversary of the French Revolution and the 1889 Exposition Universelle (world’s fair), the Eiffel Tower overlooks the River Seine, and attracts nearly 7m visitors a year.
