The Tower of Pisa is one of the most famous landmarks in Italy. It was built as a bell tower – or campanile – for Pisa cathedral, and due to its unstable foundation, it’s now known worldwide as “The Leaning Tower of Pisa”. Construction of the 55.8m (183 feet) tall tower took 199 years1, and was completed in 1372.
